Bragg Home Services came out to our home and serviced our heating and air conditioning the technician booties on his feet before he came in and was so kind and explained everything to us that was happening with our system. They were respectful and I would suggest anybody having them in their house. The best thing about them is they have a monthly program that’s only $20 a month. Bragg just finished re-insulating my attic insulation after I’d had a rodent problem. The crew was on time, communicated throughout, did a fantastic job, cleared everything on the scope list and were a pleasure to work with. Cleaned everything before departing. How to Choose a New Thermostat for Your Santa Rosa Home
Upgrading your thermostat is an excellent way to improve your home's comfort and energy efficiency. However, with the wide variety of options available, from basic digital models to advanced smart thermostats, it's important to choose the right one for your specific needs. Considering Santa Rosa's unique climate and your home's setup is crucial to making an informed decision.
Here's what you need to consider when getting a new thermostat for your home:
- Compatibility with Your HVAC System: The most important factor is ensuring the new thermostat is compatible with your existing heating and cooling system. You'll need to know if you have a low voltage, high voltage, or millivolt system, as well as the number of heating and cooling stages your system has. Trying to install a thermostat that is not compatible can lead to a system malfunction.
- Your Lifestyle and Needs: Think about how you use your home and what level of control you desire. If you have a busy, unpredictable schedule, a smart thermostat with Wi-Fi connectivity and remote access is a great choice. If you prefer a simple, set-and-forget approach, a programmable thermostat that allows for a weekly schedule might be a better fit.
- Energy-Saving Features: Modern thermostats offer a variety of features designed to help you save money on your utility bills, which is especially beneficial given Santa Rosa's temperature fluctuations. Look for features like geofencing (which adjusts the temperature when you leave or arrive), learning capabilities, and real-time energy usage reports.
- Smart Home Integration: If you have other smart devices in your home, such as a smart speaker or a security system, consider a thermostat that can integrate with them. This allows for centralized control and automation, making it easier to manage your home's environment and energy usage.
By carefully considering these factors and consulting with a professional, you can select and install a thermostat that not only provides the comfort you need but also helps you save energy and money for years to come.

How Can I Prepare My Home for a Thermostat Installation?
Before the installation, you should first identify the type of HVAC system you have to ensure compatibility with your new thermostat. It's also important to turn off the power to your HVAC system at the circuit breaker to prevent electrical accidents. Additionally, you should choose the ideal location for the new thermostat, such as an interior wall away from direct sunlight or drafts, to ensure accurate temperature readings. It's helpful to have the existing thermostat and its wires ready for the technician. This preparation helps the professional perform the installation safely and efficiently.
How Can I Maintain My Thermostat After Installation?
Proper maintenance is essential for ensuring your new thermostat performs accurately and reliably. For digital models, the most crucial step is to replace the batteries annually to avoid power-related malfunctions. It's also a good idea to gently clean the device with a soft brush to remove dust and debris from the sensor, which can cause inaccurate readings. Avoid placing heat-producing appliances or lamps near the thermostat's location. A professional HVAC technician will check and calibrate the thermostat during your routine system maintenance, ensuring it continues to operate correctly.
